MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or trade school or completion of apprentice training; AND Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in all phases of auto mechanics, including light, medium and heavy-duty trucks and heavy and light equipment. At time of application, possession of a valid State of Connecticut motor vehicle driver’s license with a good driving history. Possession of an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in Medium/Heavy Duty Truck T4 Brakes and either the Electrical/Electronic Systems ASE A6, T6 or Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) F4 Fire Apparatus Electrical Systems.
Possession
of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Emergency Vehicle (EVT)
Certifications (Or manufacturer factory training specific to pumps or apparatus
aerial systems) within 18 months of appointment:
- F3 – Fire Pumps and Accessories or current pump manufacturer factory training
- F5 – Aerial Fire Apparatus
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must be able to obtain a valid State of Connecticut commercial driver’s license (CDL), class A or B, without manual transmission and/or airbrake restrictions within 120 days of employment and at the candidate’s own expense.

SCOPE OF EXAMINATION: Oral
examination weighted 75%. Qualified applicants who receive a passing score of
at least 70% on the oral examination will then be ranked according to their
education, training, and experience as indicated on Application Supplement #25-07
and weighted 25%. Applicants are urged to carefully complete the appropriate
