Milford Historical Society

The Herbcrafters of the Milford Historical Society will have a booth at the Milford Community Garden’s Annual Fall Garlic Festival on the Green on Sat., Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Rain date Sun., Sept. 24.)

The booth will offer ideas and recipes on pairing garlic with herbs and will sell cookbooks with all kinds of recipes. Herb soaps, sachets and bouquets of dried lavender will be available, along with bayberry candles and potpourri.

Herbcrafters, started in 1973, is a group within the Milford Historical Society that takes care of the herb gardens around the Bryan-Downs House (c.1785) at the Society’s headquarters, 34 High St.

Members meet on the 4^th Monday of the month to learn about the historical and modern-day uses of herbs for culinary and medicinal purposes. They share ideas on the cultivation and drying of herbs, along with ways to use companion plantings. They also make crafts using herbs and hold a yearly plant exchange.
