Imagine clearing out your family
attic in Pittsburgh and being surprised to discover an
enormous collection of letters written during the Civil War by two Vermont
soldiers. That is what happened to the author of Voices from the Attic.
The book tells the story of two
brothers who witnessed and made history by fighting in the Peninsula Campaign,
then at South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg,
the Wilderness, and Cedar Creek. They then preserved that history through their
surprisingly detailed and insightful letters.
Rediscovered after 150 years, their letters offer fascinating insight
as seen through the eyes of two soldiers fighting in America’s great Civil War.
Author Carleton Young will be at
Milford Public Library on October 19 at 7 pm, to discuss his findings and the
importance of these letters. Copies of
his book will be available for sale and for signing.
All are welcome.
