Yoga Nidra Meditation

Yoga Nidra is commonly known as yogic sleep. It is an immensely powerful meditation technique, and one of the easiest yoga practices to develop and maintain. While the practitioner rests comfortably, this systematic meditation takes you on a magical journey, leaving you with a sense of wholeness.

As you lie down, supported in savasana, all you have to do is follow the voice that is guiding you. It's likely that you will remember certain parts of the meditation and not others. Every time you come to practice, you encounter a new experience- none of which is wrong. Falling asleep is okay too, as you will still receive benefits while the unconscious mind is absorbing the practice.

Yoga Nidra promotes deep rest and relaxation that isn't found in your average meditation practice. The stages of body scan and breath awareness alone can be practiced to calm the nervous system, leading to less stress and better health.

Yoga Nidra offers a space to explore what you need in the moment, as well as an opportunity to work on releasing long-held emotions. It truly is a magical experience!

We only have 15 spots, please register in advance!

Marianne McShane – Irish Storyteller

Marianne McShane – Irish Storyteller

Admission is FREE, and open to the public, but reservations are required as space is limited.  Contact Maureen Moore at (203) 877-1016 to reserve your spot. Co-sponsored by the P.V. O’Donnell Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann and the Irish Heritage Society.

The multi-award winning, Mid Atlantic Fleadh Cheoil storytelling champion, Marianne was born and raised in County Down, on the shores of Belfast Lough. She grew up in the town of Bangor, where she heard her Granda tell stories around the hearth on many an evening.

The countryside around her breathed stories, with fairy thorns and fairy forts in the fields, and the cries of the banshee whistling on the wind at night. Is it any wonder Marianne became a storyteller, growing up in the landscape of Irish legend?

Now living in the NYC area, Marianne has been a featured storyteller at festivals on both sides of the Atlantic and has shared her stories at social events, schools and libraries. A dancer since she was a wee girl, she has been known to kick off her shoes and do a few steps at the end of a tale. She also plays celtic harp and often accompanies her stories with haunting melodies. Her telling of folk and fairy tales from around the world has enchanted audiences of all ages, but her special love remains the legends and myths of her native land, Ireland.

“You can’t teach what Marianne already knows. The scent of peat fires, the sights and sounds of the Irish landscape permeate her tales.”
