What You Need to Know About Medicare

 

Milford Public Library will present a free educational seminar on Tuesday September 11th at 7 PM on Medicare. Trish Pearson, an independent agent, will review the various parts of Medicare: A,B,C, and D and provide step by step guidance on the enrollment process.

            Whether you are new to Medicare or a current enrollee, there will be information that is relevant to your situation. The presentation will include an update on changes mandated by CMS and a look at how potential changes in the Affordable Care Act could impact Medicare recipients. 

            She will also provide some key points to consider when choosing a senior health insurance plan. This is the time to change plans, review current benefits. Open enrollment is:

October 15th – December 7th. If you are turning 65 in 2019, now is the time to learn about your options and the enrollment process. 

            Trish Pearson is the principal at Trish Pearson Insurance Services, LLC and has been working with seniors helping them with their insurance needs for 15 years. She is licensed and works with all major insurance carriers.

Fall Free Living preented by the VNA

 

The Milford Public Library in collaboration with Community VNA is presenting a program on Fall Free Living on Wednesday September 12th at 2 pm. Falls happen to more than 2.8 million older adults causing serious physical, functional, and financial consequences. 

           VNA Community Health and Hospice’s Fall Free Living Program can help reduce the incidence and negative impacts from falls. Join the Fall-Free Living Team of Experts and learn: How to prevent falls ; the building blocks of falling down; balance exercise demonstrations; personalized balance assessment.

This program is a Triple Aim Award winning program from the Connecticut Association of Healthcare at home.

Rape Crisis Center of Milford Volunteer Training 2018

The Rape Crisis Center of Milford is now accepting applications for the upcoming training to be a certified sexual assault crisis advocate/counselor pursuant to CT State Statute 52-146(k). The 40-hour curriculum includes training and information on/in sexual assault/violence, crisis intervention and counseling, cultural competency, police processes, forensic evidence collection, mandated reporting, counselor/advocate procedures, court process & Connecticut Sexual Assault Statutes.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. You must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement upon acceptance into the program. No previous counseling experience required. 

Bi-lingual volunteers are strongly encouraged to apply! 

Volunteers are asked to pay a $50.00 fee to cover costs of all training materials.

The RCC of Milford Volunteer Training run one to two days per week in the evening beginning in the Fall 2018.

Trainings will be held on Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 5:30-8:30 PM. 

The first night of training is scheduled for Wednesday September 12th and is set to conclude on Wednesday November 7th.

Folks on Spokes Ride/Step Forward Memorial Walk

Folks on Spokes Ride and Step Forward Memorial Walk on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 8:30am at Fowler Field in Milford promote mental wellness and raise funds to support people recovering from the challenges of a mental illness or addiction.

Ride distances are 5, 10, 20 and 40 miles or any combination. The 5K walk honors lives lost to addiction, overdose, suicide or other mental health related issues and includes a ceremony which allows participants to pay tribute to their lost loved ones.

Pre-registration pricing: Cyclists $40, Walkers $25, Youth $15. Form a team of family and friends to fundraise for mental health education and awareness.

Step Forward Memorial Walk 2018 (formerly Suicide Awareness Walk) is a commemorative event to honor the tragic end to lives lost to addiction, overdose, suicide or other mental health related issues. The Walk offers understanding and compassion to those who may feel isolated in their grief.  Please join us to support survivors and pay tribute to their lost loved ones

Historical Society Program Sept. 17;

‘Putting the ‘Her’ in Heroics’

A free program on “Women in the American Revolution: Putting the ‘Her’ in Heroics” will be presented by the Milford Historical Society on Mon., Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Mary Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church, 168 Broad St.

The program will introduce you to names you probably never read in a school history book. Anna Maria Lane, Sally St. Claire and Elizabeth Zane are women who risked their lives during the American Revolution.

Speaker Eric Chandler, of Norwalk, devotes his time to studying and giving power-point programs on the little-known stories of courage from the American Revolution.

The MHS program begins with coffee and dessert. There is no admission, but free-will donations are gratefully accepted.
