Spirits of Milford Ghost Walk

Spirits of Milford Ghost Walk
Come on a scarily good 90-minute Spirits of Milford Ghost Walk, where you’ll be enthralled and entertained with stories about the distraught Paugusset Indian who, 400 years ago, strangled and killed her two young sons; the three deadly curses cast on Charles Island; why almost-300-year-old Capt. Stephen Stow has never left his home; the accused Colonial witch buried in Milford Cemetery; and so many more. Blending the macabre with known history, this spirited, lantern-lit walk follows a roughly 1.15-mile loop through downtown Milford, including stops at some of the city's oldest homes and Milford Cemetery. Participants who desire also get the chance to try out paranormal investigation tools like EMF detectors and dowsing rods. Cost for advance tickets is $18 per person. Walk-up ticket price is $23 per person, paid in EXACT CASH only. Children 4 and under are free. A Well Regulated Militia - the History of the 2nd Amendment

Gun control continues to be a divisive topic in our country, especially in light of recent events. On Tuesday, May 22 at 7 p.m., the Milford Library will host a presentation that addresses this issue.

Historian Mark Albertson will speak on “A Well Regulated Militia”. This talk goes beyond the simple pro vs. con debate on the gun issue.   Rather, it traces the evolution of the Citizen-Soldier from colonial time to today’s National Guard. Is the militia concept as outlined in the Militia Act of 1792 still applicable, considering today’s National Guard as a bona fide reserve of the United States Army?

This thoughtful history examines the changes in America’s defense from the colonial era until today.   Albertson will follow this evolution, which goes hand-in-hand with continental expansion, and centralized government control in the United States, as America severs its colonial roots to become a global super power. Just what constitutes a Well Regulated Militia and how does it affect the citizen's right to bear arms?

Mark Albertson is an historical research editor at Army Aviation magazine; and, is the historian for the Army Aviation Association of America.  Mark is a long time member of the United States Naval Institute.  He has authored several books, among which are USS Constitution: Constitution State Battleship and They’ll Have to Follow You! The Triumph of the Great White Fleet. He teaches history at Norwalk Community College in the extended studies program and at the Lifetime Learners Institute.

This program is free and open to the public. No registration is necessary.
