Calendar of Events

The AARP Assistance Program provides free Income Tax preparation assistance for low and middle income tax payers of all ages with special attention to those 60 and older.  The program will run February 1st to April 12th on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Participants are required to register by calling 203 877-5131. In the event there is a two hour delay because of stormy weather, the senior center will open at 11:00 a.m. and if the Milford School System if closed, the senior center will be closed as well.

          Taxpayers should bring with them, all information and documents that apply to their 2017 Income Tax, including a copy of 2016 Income Tax Return, W-2 and tax statement forms, W-1G, certain gambling forms, social security benefit statement, original cost of stocks, bonds and mutual holdings sold during 2017, all documents that relate to deductible expenses, such as medical, state income taxes, property taxes, contributions and mortgage interest.

Middle school students are invited to attend Milford Library’s Crunchyroll anime club. The Young Adult Librarian will be showing episodes from Crunchyroll, an anime streaming site, and will be offering an opportunity for fans to discuss anime, manga, and Japan! Light refreshments will be served.

            The club is for students in grades 6 through 8. Call the Reference Desk at 203-783-3292 to sign up. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month. The next meeting will be Thursday, February 1st at 6:00 pm at Milford Public Library, 57 New Haven Ave in Milford.

Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after twenty-two years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate’s career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park—or that has found him—bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag. A street-smart mixture of Lab and Poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. And Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn’t understand the relationship between man and dog. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy until, after a series of hilarious and touching complications, Greg and Kate learn to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of their lives.

The Milford Senior Center, 9 Jepson Drive will be hosting a program, Getting Stronger As You Age, Wednesday, February 7 at 1:00 p.m.  Whether you are active or would like to become more active, you can learn how regular exercise can increase your agility and assist you in living to your full potential. 203 877-5131 for details.

The Milford Public Library will hold a seminar on Investment Basics on Saturday

February 10th from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. This workshop will provide six simple steps to gain more confidence in investing for retirement. 

You will learn the rules of the game and become informed on retirement and taxation basics.  Also, you will learn to manage risk and take action on opportunities that make sense for your situation. The program is free and open to all.

In celebration of African-American History Month, on Sunday, February 11th at 2 pm, Milford Library, 57 New Haven Ave., welcomes the extraordinary vocal talents of Rhonda Denét. Accompanied by pianist Mike Bardash, Rhonda will perform a collection of jazz standards and soul classics that spans 5 decades. You’ll enjoy hits from a time when the "First Lady Of Song," Ella Fitzgerald graced the stage to when the "Queen of Soul," Aretha Franklin ruled the airways. Homage will be paid not only to Ella and Aretha, but also to jazz stylists such as Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, and Nancy Wilson. Soul divas Etta James, Martha Reeves, Mary Wells, and Gladys Knight will also be represented.  After celebrating all who have influenced her, Rhonda will share some of her original music. Through the music, the magic and the message, there is bound to be something for everyone!

A star in her own right, Ms. Denét began studying music at an early age. Her passion led her to earn a Bachelor of Music from New York University and a graduate degree in Arts Administration from Florida State University’s School of Music. Since 2007 she has been active in the professional music scene as a writer, producer and singer with several New York area bands.
