Adult Family Living Program Discussion at Milford Senior Cen

The Milford Senior Center at 9 Jepson Drive, is hosting an Adult Family Living Program, Tuesday, October 3 at 1:00 p.m. The benefits and requirements for this program, offered by the State of Connecticut, under which, family members or friends, not spouses, can become Direct Care Givers for up to three eligible clients within the same home.  The program is being presented by Juniper HomeCare. 203 877-5131

Kickoff Milford Restaurant Week with an experience of food, spirts, wine and music with samplings from participating restaurants. Join us for Chow Down Milford at Costa Azzurra in the banquet room on Tuesday, October 3 from 5:30 - 8:00 pm!

Volunteer as an English Language Tutor - Training

Volunteer tutors will learn techniques to assist Basic Literacy and ESL students with dialogue, listening comprehension, oral fluency, phonics, reading comprehension and writing skills. No previous teaching experience required! All prospective tutors will be interviewed in advance.  For further information, call The Literacy office between the hours of 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at 203-878-4800 or stop by the Stratford Library Satellite Office on Mondays, 10:00 - 12:00, Wednesdays, 10:00 - 12:00 or 3:00 - 5:00.
Additionally, if you are interested in working with students preparing for their GED (General Equivalency Diploma) examination, or prefer to help adult students with basic literacy skills, call the Center’s office to schedule your orientation meeting.
Literacy Volunteers is part of the ProLiteracy network of adult basic education and literacy programs. ProLiteracy is working with its member programs to raise awareness of available ESL services.

Milford Arts Council Celebrates Good to Great Renovation

Community Celebration for the Milford Arts Council's renovation project, "Good to Great" funded by the State DECD, Milford Progress, Stonebridge Restaurant and DMBA. Renovations at the Milford Center for the Arts include inside updates, Speakeasy concession area, outside patio repairs, signage and two pedestrian wayfinding kiosks situated at the Center and Chamber of Commerce. Open House with entertainment. 

Plus a special exhibit by 1060's Pop-Artist and founding MAC Board member, George Amato.

Pumpkins on the Pier Eve - NEW THIS YEAR!

Pumpkins on the Pier offers activities for every member of the family. Festival favorites include the pumpkin plunge, pumpkin display contest, on the pier pumpkin pie eating contest, crafts and activities, as well as games and demonstrations. New to the festival this year is Pumpkins Eve. Held the night before Pumpkins on the Pier, Pumpkins Eve will be full of fun, music, food, even specialty beers, brewed just for the Pumpkins on the Pier event. The Rum Runners will be on hand to entertain the masses that evening as well!

Spirits of Milford Ghost Walk
Come on a scarily good 90-minute Spirits of Milford Ghost Walk, where you’ll be enthralled and entertained with stories about: The distraught Paugusset Indian who, 400 years ago, strangled and killed her two young sons, the three deadly curses cast on Charles Island, Why 291-year-old Capt. Stephen Stow has never left his home, The accused Colonial witch buried in Milford CemeteryAnd so many more.  Blending the macabre with known history, this spirited, lantern-lit walk follows a roughly 1.15-mile loop through downtown Milford, including stops at some of the city's oldest homes and Milford Cemetery. Participants who desire also get the chance to try out paranormal investigation tools like EMF detectors and dowsing rods.  Cost for advance tickets is $15 per person. Walk-up ticket price is $18 per person. Children 4 and under are free. Milford Library Presents "Ask a Lawyer"

 

Milford Public Library will hold a free legal clinic on Saturday October 7 from 10 am –

2 pm in the Community Room of the Milford Public Library.

            Participants can meet with a member of the Milford Bar Association from 15-20 minutes and discuss general legal information of one’s choice, and thereafter be provided with referrals to legal services, other agencies, a private attorney, or a useful legal website, should you wish to do your own personal research. Legal pamphlets will also be available for a limited number of legal topics. 

Interested parties are asked to contact Attorney Walter Sawicki at (203) 647-2009 to schedule a time slot, or you may attend on a walk –in basis. On behalf of the Milford Bar Association, our current President, Erica Wikstrom, welcomes your participation.

Pumpkins on the Pier

Pumpkins on the Pier offers activities for every member of the family. Festival favorites include the pumpkin plunge, pumpkin display contest, on the pier pumpkin pie eating contest, crafts and activities, as well as games and demonstrations. Contests Galore...Prizes & Fun Awaits!
Whether artist, carver or pie eater, young or young at heart, The Boys & Girl's Club of Milford's Annual Pumpkins on the Pier has a contest for you. At stake is fun, neat pumpkin trophies too for select contests or a prize for every child.

Invitational Pie Eating Contest How fast can you eat a half of a pumpkin pie? Find out on-site as notable area volunteers compete in an invitational pie eating contest. Two participants will be selected from the audience!

   Pumpkin Decorating Contest On-site contest for different age groups and family entrees for non-carved pumpkins on display at the pier promenade. Sign up in the Decorating Pavilion, Pier Tent or Information Booth. Judging is at 5:00 PM.

   Pumpkin Carving Contest This contest is open to adults only for the best carved pumpkin on display at the pier promenade.
