One City, One Story Kick-off Event
 

ONE CITY, ONE STORY 2017 KICK-OFF EVENT Sunday April 2 at 1pm.  Join for a full afternoon of storytelling as we get ready to kick off a month of programming celebrating our One City, One Story 2017 program. Refreshments will be served beginning at 1pm as we eagerly wait for our 1:30pm Skype visit with OCOS author Christina Henríquez. Stay and listen to a 2pm storytelling event with Laconia Therrio, as he shares stories that help us find our common humanity as we celebrate the stories of our ancestors from around the world. And, since we all have a story to tell, help us launch our new Bridge Stories initiative where you become the storyteller and help continue the narrative of our great city, no matter who you are or how long you have been here.

Conscious Discipline: Going beyond "Use Your Words"

Kids Count of Milford invites you to attend a two day workshop.  Conscious Discipline Certified Instructor Beth Anspach will be presenting.  The cost is $40 for the two sessions, March 4th and April 1st.  Reliance on praise, punishment and vague phrases like "use your words", "walking fee" leaves teachers and parents alike feeling unsuccessful in truly helping the children in their care become disciplined.  Parents and teachers are doing the best we know how, but it often feels as if we are crossing our fingers and simply hoping the children in our care develop healthy self-control, self-discipline and self-esteem.  Participants will learn how to understand our beliefs about power impact our discipline methods, learn what research says about the effects of praise on children of all ages, realize what adult's word choices communicate to children about what they value and how the world works, learn to be firm and fair without fear or guilt, discover a few helpful, easy to impllement, skills that will allow children to become more self-aware, gain confidence and be motivated to cooperate and practice a step-by-step process to setting limits, offering choices and responding to the child who is in an uncooperative state.  To reserve...  More >>

Minds in Motion

Minds in Motion is a hands-on, interactive learning program for all students in grades K-8.  This fun half-day event offers kids in and around Milford the opportunity to choose from over 30 workshops in a variety of areas that interest them.  Parents and educators benefit, too, by attending free thought-provoking and informative workshops, as well as a keynote address.  Recieve free literature, network with fellow parents and learn about afterschool programs, camps and other educational resources that benefit your children.  Registration is required.

Irish Man and Woman of the Year Dinner

Come and honor two very important people of the year, the Irish Man and Woman of the Year!  There will be performances by The Mulkerin School of Irish Dance and Entertainment by The Navels.  Tickets are $40 for adults (includes open bar), choice of Corned Beef dinner or Chicken Marsala.  Children, ages 3-12 is $15, with choice of Corned Beef, Spaghetti & Meatballs or Chicken Tenders.  Ages 2 and under are free.

Jam 4 Jimi's Friends is our charity to help children with special needs and their families. We started out helping 1 we now assist over 16 kids.. every year we hold a 8 hour fundraiser with 10 bands plus so much more!
We will have food, raffles, , DJ Dave & crew, great Orange Ale House staff and so much more! .
You get all of this for a suggested $20 donation! Kids 12 & under are FREE!
We truly appreciate all of you helping to make this event so successful every year! Please share this like/share this event to help get the word out. We are back for our 11th year! Yes, it has been 11 years of helping local children with special needs! We are truly blessed!

8th Annual Orange Fire Aux. Pancake Supper

The Orange Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will host its 8th annual Pancake Supper on Monday, March 6th at Chip’s Restaurant, 321 Boston Post Road., Orange.
Menu includes Pancakes, Eggs, choice of Bacon or Sausage and beverage.
There will be an early seating at 5:30 p.m. and late seating at 6:30 p.m.
Prices are: $12 for adults, $6 for children 10 and under, gratuity included.
Tickets must be purchased in advance as we a limited number of seats available.
Tickets may be purchased from any Auxiliary member or at Knight’s Inc. 286 Boston Post Rd. Orange.
All proceeds benefit the Orange Volunteer Fire Department.

Crunchyroll Anime

 

New members are invited to join Milford Library’s Crunchyroll anime club. The Young Adult Librarian will be showing episodes from Crunchyroll, an anime streaming site, and will be offering an opportunity for fans to discuss anime, manga, and Japan! Light refreshments will be served.

            The club is for middle school students in grades 6 through 8. Call the Reference Desk at 203-783-3292 to sign up. The next meeting will be held on Monday, March 6 at 6:00pm at Milford Public Library, 57 New Haven Ave in Milford.

            Milford Library has been granted a premium account through Crunchyroll’s outreach program, which allows the library to show episodes commercial-free!
