Cut the Cord - Stop Paying Costly Cable Bills!

Is your cable, phone and internet bill one of the highest in your household? Are you tired of switching providers or arguing with yours when your short-term introductory rates expire and your bill more than doubles? Or do you just want to save $1,000 a year or more? Cut the cord! The world of internet-based entertainment can replace your costly cable (and phone) service for a fraction of the price… and give you more choices besides!

It’s not hard to do, and you can even try it out for little or no cost, before you tell your cable provider to pull the plug. Instead of overpaying for a massive selection of channels you never watch, discover how easy it is to pick and choose what services you want. Many are free. Others let you pay on a month-to-month basis, or even on a pay-per-view model with zero cost when you’re not watching. The range of choices is so wide that most “cord-cutters” lose nothing except the high bills! This seminar will be held at Milford Public Library on February 8 at 6 pm.   In case of snow, please call 230.783.3292.   If the presentation is cancelled, there is a snow date of February 22.

Big Bacteria, Big Pharma, Big Problems

Milford Library is pleased to host a series conducted by the Yale Science Diplomats.   This five part series begins on February 13 at 6:30 pm.   It is titled “ Big Bacteria, Big Pharma, Big Problems.” The series will continue through May.

Antibiotics are truly a big part of our lives, but it’s hard to know what they are and how they really affect us. How do they work, and what parts do they play in medicine, agriculture, and history? Three scientists will lay out the real roles of antibiotics, including prescriptions and drug resistance, public health issues, and what big pharmaceuticals and academia are trying to do with them. Come join us for an insightful evening, no health insurance necessary!

Yale Science Diplomats are a graduate student group at Yale University dedicated to science policy and science communication. Via outreach initiatives such as Science in the News, Science Shorts, and Science @ Bar, they bring science to the public in exciting and accessible ways, with the goal of fostering a scientifically informed electorate. In doing so, they also train scientists on effective communication skills and encourage active participation and involvement in science policy and the political process.

This program is free and open to the public.   Light refreshments will be served.   For more information, please call 203.783.3292.
