Spirits of Milford Ghost Walk - last of 2018!

Spirits of Milford Ghost Walk - last of 2018!
Come on a scarily good 90-minute Spirits of Milford Ghost Walk, where you’ll be enthralled and entertained with stories about the distraught Paugusset Indian who, 400 years ago, strangled and killed her two young sons; the three deadly curses cast on Charles Island; why almost-300-year-old Capt. Participants who desire also get the chance to try out paranormal investigation tools like EMF detectors and dowsing rods. Cost for advance tickets is $18 per person. Walk-up ticket price is $23 per person, paid in EXACT CASH only. Children 4 and under are free. Passing Strange, RAW ENERGY wrapped in a benefit concert

RAW ENERGY wrapped in a benefit concert for Bridges and Milford Prevention Council

Passing Strange was born from the shadowy folds of human emotion, a passion for music, love, freedom, and truth. The musical stylings of this duo are laced in jazz, bedazzled in blues, and brewed in a vat of vintage rock.

Hailing from Southern Connecticut, Kate and Anthony formed Passing Strange in April 2017, after Kate performed solo during an open mic. As Anthony looked on, he thought about how drums would bring depth to the talented songwriter’s creations. He suggested they play together at the same open mic the following week, to determine whether they were musically compatible, and the rest is history.

Influenced by Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor as well as The Deftones, Marilyn Manson and The Doors, Kate is a self-taught pianist and vocalist, and Anthony has been playing drums for 30 years. In the summer of 2017, Passing Strange recorded their debut album The Water And The Woods at Dobas Music Studios in Hamden, Connecticut. Their second album, Come Whatever Storms, is due out in 2018.

Honoring Our Veterans : a History

Milford Library is pleased to host historian Hamish Lutris for a presentation about America’s veterans on November 7 at 6:30pm.  From the French and Indian War to Afghanistan and Iraq, American men and women have placed themselves in harm’s way under the American flag. Soldiers serving in the wars of the United States have also often been civilian volunteers who left farms and factories to fight under conditions challenging to the very core of their humanity. How to honor that sacrifice has been a question for our country since its inception. This presentation will discuss the ways veterans have been recognized for their service, and how that recognition has changed over time. It will range widely, from creating our first veterans’ organization, the Cincinnati, to observing holidays like Memorial Day, sponsoring the creation of national cemeteries, and passing the GI Bill, among others.

Hamish Lutris is an Associate Professor of History and Political Science at Capital Community College in Hartford, Connecticut. He has worked in some of America’s premier natural and historical sites, leading hiking and historical programs. He has also lectured extensively in the United States, Europe, and Canada, presenting programs on wide-ranging historical topics, including Native American history, the Civil War, Scientific History, Social and cultural history, World War I, World War II, and the American West.
