Spirits of Milford Ghost Walk

Spirits of Milford Ghost Walk
Come on a scarily good 90-minute Spirits of Milford Ghost Walk, where you’ll be enthralled and entertained with stories about the distraught Paugusset Indian who, 400 years ago, strangled and killed her two young sons; the three deadly curses cast on Charles Island; why almost-300-year-old Capt. Stephen Stow has never left his home; the accused Colonial witch buried in Milford Cemetery; and so many more. Blending the macabre with known history, this spirited, lantern-lit walk follows a roughly 1.15-mile loop through downtown Milford, including stops at some of the city's oldest homes and Milford Cemetery. Participants who desire also get the chance to try out paranormal investigation tools like EMF detectors and dowsing rods. Cost for advance tickets is $18 per person. Walk-up ticket price is $23 per person, paid in EXACT CASH only. Children 4 and under are free. Milford Alive! Small Business Recognitions - "Over the Hump"

Milford Alive! Small Business Recognitions - "Over the Hump"

Milford Alive! was formed to celebrate, educate, and support local business.

It's our belief that small local businesses dont get enough recognition, and in many cases get no reconition.  We aim to change that!

For October we present the "Over the Hump" Award.  The premise is this:  A large percentage of businesses fail in the first 3 years.  Another chunk fail between 3 and 5 years.  If you've made it past 5 years in business, some would say you are "over the hump" and you business might actually survive and become successful! Congratulations are in order.

The award criteria are as follows:

1. Business should have been established etween 2005 and 2013, between 5 and 15 years as an established business.

2. Be a Milford based business.   Having locations outside Milford is okay but the business' primary operating location should be Milford

These recognitions are provided through a partnership with Milford Alive! and Milford Economic & Community Development.  Honorable Mayor Benjamin G Blake will be handing out the awards.

Awardees are encouraged to bring a guest.  Guests could be a mentor, supporter, or the owner of a business inspired or helped out in some significant way.

Food is provided for the awardees by Joey C's Restaurants and lunch for guests and attendees is generously sponsored by Liberty Bank.

Tuesday, October 16, 2018 12:00 PM thru 01:30 PM

October 17-Flu Clinic at Milford Senior Center

Deepa Joseph, Director of the Milford Health Department has announced a Flu Clinic will take place at the Milford Senior Center, 9 Jepson Drive on Wednesday, October 17th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Please do not arrive before 9:00 a.m.

The Health Department will offer Fluzone High Dose for individuals 65 years of age and over at their Flu Clinics this season, including the Senior Center Flu Clinic.  Fluzone High Dose is the first and only influenza vaccine designed specifically for people 65 years of age and older.  Persons in this age group have a higher risk of complications from influenza.  Aging can decrease the body’s ability to have a good immune response after getting the influenza vaccine.  A higher dose of antigen in the vaccine helps provide older adults a better immune response and therefore better protection against the flu.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) details that each year more than 425,000 related hospitalizations and up to 36,000 flu-related deaths occur.  It is estimated that 52% of the hospitalizations and 78% of the deaths occur in people 65 years of age or older.

To register for a flu shot at the Senior Center, contact our Insurance Specialists John Cornelius or Laura Daneault at 203-877-5131 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Please have your insurance information available when you call.
