13th Annual Milford Irish Festival
 

13th Annual Milford Irish Festival Friday, September 14th (6pm to 11pm) and Saturday, September 15th (11am to 11pm). The festival will have Irish music, dancing, culture, Gaelic football, food, drink, and a variety of quality Irish wares for sale. Located at Fowler Field Pavilion, behind the Milford Public Library, 57 New Haven Avenue, Milford, CT. Admission fee $5 Friday & $10 Saturday, 13 years & older. Please check our website, www.milfordirish.org for details. NO Pets Allowed!! All Children’s activities are FREE. Free Shuttle bus service will be available to & from the Parsons Center, Additional Free Shuttle from the Milford Train Station.

Folks on Spokes Ride/Step Forward Memorial Walk

Folks on Spokes Ride and Step Forward Memorial Walk on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 8:30am at Fowler Field in Milford promote mental wellness and raise funds to support people recovering from the challenges of a mental illness or addiction.

Ride distances are 5, 10, 20 and 40 miles or any combination. The 5K walk honors lives lost to addiction, overdose, suicide or other mental health related issues and includes a ceremony which allows participants to pay tribute to their lost loved ones.

Pre-registration pricing: Cyclists $40, Walkers $25, Youth $15. Form a team of family and friends to fundraise for mental health education and awareness.

Folks on Spokes Ride and Step Forward Memorial Walk

 Participate in  Bridges' Folks on Spokes ride for mental health! Cyclists of all levels can enjoy the scenic, mapped routes around the Connecticut shoreline while supporting mental wellness and addiction in our community.

Step Forward Memorial Walk 2018 (formerly Suicide Awareness Walk) is a commemorative event to honor the tragic end to lives lost to addiction, overdose, suicide or other mental health related issues. The Walk offers understanding and compassion to those who may feel isolated in their grief.  Please join us to support survivors and pay tribute to their lost loved ones

               There is an unusual and interesting presentation coming up at the Milford Senior Center, 9 Jepson Drive Monday, September 17th at 1:00 p.m. Raptors and reptiles and their ability to adjust to the wild, will have their rehabilitation described by General Class Falconer, Christine Peyreigns,  A state and federally licensed General class falconer, a wildlife rehabilitator and educator, will lead the program. 203 877-5131 for details.

Historical Society Program Sept. 17;

‘Putting the ‘Her’ in Heroics’

A free program on “Women in the American Revolution: Putting the ‘Her’ in Heroics” will be presented by the Milford Historical Society on Mon., Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Mary Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church, 168 Broad St.

The program will introduce you to names you probably never read in a school history book. Anna Maria Lane, Sally St. Claire and Elizabeth Zane are women who risked their lives during the American Revolution.

Speaker Eric Chandler, of Norwalk, devotes his time to studying and giving power-point programs on the little-known stories of courage from the American Revolution.

The MHS program begins with coffee and dessert. There is no admission, but free-will donations are gratefully accepted.

            The Milford Senior Center is offering a  presentation on “How to feel good after your doctor visit”.  Milford Library is hosting an anime club for high school students that meets on the third Thursday each month. The Young Adult Librarian will show various anime, and offer an opportunity for fans to discuss manga while having snacks!

Bald Eagles - America's Majestic Birds

 

Please join us at Milford Public Library on Wednesday, September 19th at 7:00 pm for a presentation by Richard Taylor, Master Wildlife Conservationist from the CT DEEP Wildlife Team. This presentation will include the history, range, habitat, diet, nesting, breeding and recovery of Bald Eagles in Connecticut.

                Richard Taylor is a retired Human Resources executive who formerly worked for General Dynamics and Computer Sciences Corporation. He has a passion for learning and continuous education and had served as a Chief Learning Officer, a member of the Federal Committee on apprenticeship and Rhode Island Vocational Council and has degrees and certifications from SCSU, RPI and Cornell. Taylor has had an interest in wildlife and fisheries his entire life, and since his retirement he completed Connecticut’s Master Wildlife Conservationist program and is now active volunteering and presenting programs to libraries and nonprofit organizations.

Walnut Beach Farmers Market held from 4-7 pm on the third Thursday of every month.  Follow us on Facebook at Walnut Beach Farmers' Market and see the different exciting and inviting monthly themes for our shoppers and vendors.  This month is Scout out Our Market!

We have 2 Farms, River Crest and Massaro, that come with their plants and produce plus 16 other vendors.  There's live music and games and fun for the kids and everyone! Hatter and Tatter face painting and crafts at every market.  Along with teas, seafood, pet products, jewelry, fresh  lamb, and seafood. 

The market also has local food trucks with their delicious desserts and pizza(Silver Sands Pizza).

We have so much beer, music, food & fun this year that we had to expand it to two days!  Come join us for Happy Hour on Friday, Sept 21, 2018 at 5:00 pm as we kick off the weekend, and join in at 6:00 pm for the official “Tapping of the Keg!”  There's plenty of music all weekend long with the RumRunners, Alpaca Gnomes, The Blue Collar Band, The Elwoods, and of course, what would an Oktoberfest be without and Oompa band & dancers!
