Chair-ity Auction

Chair-ity Auction
The Chair-ity Auction is the Milford Education Foundation's main fundrasier. 14 adirondack chairs were built, designed and painted by local students, artists and community groups supporting youth. These unique beautiful chairs will be auctioned live at the event with 4 auctioned online for those who cannot attend. All attendees are automatically entered into a raffle where one of the chairs will be awarded as a door prize. There are also a number of great silent auction prizes to bid on as well. Tickets are $50 and include dinner and dessert and can be purchased at HERE. Milford's own Brian Smith returns as MC and auctioneer and there will be a cash bar and musical entertainment as well. Proceeds go to the MEF teacher mini-grant program which has raised almost $50,000 for creative educational program opportunities in Milford.

The Milford Concert Band under the direction of Duane Berge begins its 26th summer season with a family concert of pop and show medleys,  Symphonic masterworks and patriotic favorites.  The official band of the City of Milford, CT consists of 35 musicians from middle school age to retirees of various skill and talent levels.  We play music you can sing along to.

Spirits of Milford Ghost Walk

Spirits of Milford Ghost Walk
Come on a scarily good 90-minute Spirits of Milford Ghost Walk, where you’ll be enthralled and entertained with stories about the distraught Paugusset Indian who, 400 years ago, strangled and killed her two young sons; the three deadly curses cast on Charles Island; why almost-300-year-old Capt. Stephen Stow has never left his home; the accused Colonial witch buried in Milford Cemetery; and so many more. Blending the macabre with known history, this spirited, lantern-lit walk follows a roughly 1.15-mile loop through downtown Milford, including stops at some of the city's oldest homes and Milford Cemetery. Participants who desire also get the chance to try out paranormal investigation tools like EMF detectors and dowsing rods. Cost for advance tickets is $18 per person. Walk-up ticket price is $23 per person, paid in EXACT CASH only. Children 4 and under are free. It also contains labor estimates for a multitude of professional repairs. Mechanics can also complete ASE test preparation quizzes through Chilton Automotive Library to study for their ASE certification. New Birding Book Talk and Signing at Connecticut Audubon

 The Connecticut Audubon Society in Milford will host Frank Gallo, former associate director of Audubon’s Coastal Center, for a book talk and signing on Sunday, June 24 at 1 p.m.  Gallo’s new bird finding guide, ”Birding in Connecticut” is described as the definitive resource for where, when and how to find birds in the state.

Filled with information that is valuable to birders of all skill levels, the book contains clear and up-to-date bar graphs showing seasonal occurrence and abundance for every Connecticut bird species. It also has QR code links to continually updated information on the occurrence and abundance of birds at each location. From bird-finding tips, to the beautiful illustrations, maps and color photographs, Birding in Connecticut is the ideal guide for planning your next day in the field.

Bird Walk with Frank Gallo

 

Frank Gallo loves birds. He is a leading expert on where to find birds in Connecticut and has led birding expeditions all over the world. Gallo is a tour leader for Sunrise Birding, LLC, an international birding tour company, is a member of the Connecticut Avian Rare Records Committee, and a federally licensed master bird bander. He is also the author of two children’s nature books, Bird Calls and Night Sounds, and is a published freelance photographer.

Gallo will be leading a bird walk on June 27 at 6:30pm. Meet at Milford Public Library, 57 New Haven Ave. for this free walk. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring binoculars. After the walk, get some refreshments at Milford Library, and listen to Gallo talk about his newest book, Birding in Connecticut. It is the definitive guide to where, when, and how to find birds in the state. The book is packed with information valuable to birders of all skill levels, from species accounts and a first-of-a kind cumulative list of rare bird sightings, to a host of tips and tricks to finding and identifying birds. It is an invaluable resource on the habits and habitats of Connecticut’s birdlife, with clear and up-to-date bar graphs showing seasonal occurrence and abundance for every Connecticut bird species. It is suitable for novices and experienced birders alike.

Crunchyroll for Middle Schoolers

 

 Middle school students are invited to attend Milford Library’s Crunchyroll anime club. The Young Adult Librarian will be showing episodes from Crunchyroll, an anime streaming site, and will be offering an opportunity for fans to discuss anime, manga, and Japan! Light refreshments will be served.

            The club is for students in grades 6 through 8. Call the Reference Desk at 203-783-3292 to sign up. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month. The next meeting will be Thursday, July 5 at 6:00pm at Milford Public Library, 57 New Haven Ave in Milford.
