Seed: the Untold Story

Milford Library and the Milford Garden Club are hosting an evening viewing of Seed : the Untold Story, a beautifully filmed documentary of the wonders of seeds.    Worshipped and treasured since the dawn of humankind, few things on Earth are as miraculous and vital as seeds. SEED: The Untold Story follows passionate seed keepers intent on protecting our 12,000 year-old food legacy.

In the last century, 94% of our seed varieties have disappeared. This once abundant seed diversity — painstakingly created by ancient farmers and gardeners over countless millennia — has been drastically winnowed down to a handful of mass-produced varieties. Under the spell of industrial "progress" and corporate profits, family farmsteads have given way to mechanized agribusinesses sowing genetically identical crops on a massive scale. But without seed diversity, crop diseases rise and empires fall.

More than a cautionary tale of "man against nature," SEED reveals the work of farmers, scientists, lawyers, and indigenous seed keepers who are fighting a David versus Goliath battle to defend the future of our food.

All are welcome to attend.

Learning CPR at Milford Library

Milford Public Library will host a “Hands On” CPR workshop on Wednesday April 11 at 2 pm. Join Julie O’Connell, of Tri-Balance Health in Milford, in learning hands on life saving skills.  O’OConnell is a certified trainer in CPR/AED. CPR and AED are two different steps in the process of saving a life of someone suffering from cardiac arrest.

You may not realize it, but the response time for first responders after 911 is called averages 8-12 minutes. During sudden cardiac arrest, each minute that defibrillation is delayed reduces someone’s chances of survival by approximately 10 %.

This class can equip you to save a life. O’Connell will demonstrate practice skills for adults and children. Learn to recognize the signs of a heart attack and cardiac arrest and learn how to relieve choking for a responsive and unresponsive person. The program is free and open to all.
