Memory Matters

A few decades ago, the state of your brain was believed to be out of your control. Conventional wisdom taught that people are born with a certain number of brain cells which die over time and cannot be replaced. Recent years have brought good news. Although the areas of the brain associated with memory shrink with age, you can still add brain cells and build new connections between these cells throughout your life.

Exercising your brain is as significant as exercising your body. Come and learn about why exercising your brain is so important. Dr. Bradford Dickerson, Professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, says that aerobic exercise leads the list in preserving memory.   Join experts from the VNA Community Healthcare in learning why this is important at this essential talk on May 10 at 2pm at Milford Public Library. 57 New Haven Ave.

Come to this workshop and find out how to maintain brain function. You will certainly learn that memory loss and aging are truly myths! The workshop is free and open to all.

Raissa Katona Bennett and Kenneth Gartman concert

Raissa Katona Bennett and Kenneth Gartman concert
Raissa and Kenneth celebrate the songs that have inspired and uplifted us for decades. Audiences will enjoy popular standards and show tunes by America’s greatest composers – Rogers & Hammerstein, Berlin, Sondheim and more – plus the best of a new generation of popular songwriters. These two good friends, superb singer and musicians, will offer a wonderful evening of  story and song. Raissa and Kenneth’s performances earned them a MAC Award nomination (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) for “Outstanding Duo Show”.

Raissa is best known for playing “Christine Daae” in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA on Broadway, and for her leading roles in the First National Tours of CATS and PARADE. She is a multiple award winning headliner at Feinsteins, The Metropolitan Room and Laurie Beechman Theatre. These critically acclaimed appearances have made her one of NYC’s most sought after guest stars at many of Manhattan’s prestigious venues including: Town Hall, The Cabaret Convention at Lincoln Center, 54 Below, The Iridium, The Supper Club, The Rainbow Room, The Oak Room at the Algonquin and Radio City Music Hall.

“A tart-tongued commentator on modern life, her theatrical soprano is an effective vehicle for witty story telling.” - NY Times

Kenneth performed in the National Tour of THE MUSIC MAN. He has also performed internationally on a Live BBC Broadway of SIMPLY SONDHEIM and throughout Ireland in A NEW YORK SONGBOOK: WAY OFF BROADWAY. Kenneth has appeared as both a singer and a pianist in the countries finest concert halls. Gartman’s work in cabaret garnered nominations for Best Music Director and Best Male Debut in the 2012 Broadway World New York Cabaret Awards.
