English Language Tutor Training Classes - Stratford
Volunteer tutors will learn techniques to assist Basic Literacy and ESL students with dialogue, listening comprehension, oral fluency, phonics, reading comprehension and writing skills. No previous teaching experience required! All prospective tutors will be interviewed in advance. For further information, call The Literacy office between the hours of 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at 203-878-4800 or stop by the Stratford Library Satellite Office on Wednesdays, 10:00 - 12:00 or 3:00 - 5:00.
Additionally, if you are interested in working with students preparing for their GED (General Equivalency Diploma) examination, or prefer to help adult students with basic literacy skills, call the Center’s office to schedule your orientation meeting.
Literacy Volunteers is part of the ProLiteracy network of adult basic education and literacy programs. ProLiteracy is working with its member programs to raise awareness of available ESL services.

Regional Water Authority - Keeping Our Water Safe
We have all heard about
the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. Fortunately, we live in an area where the water is relatively uncontaminated. In our region in New Haven County, about 45
million gallons of water per day are used. The Regional Water Authority of South Central Connecticut is responsible
for the cleanliness and safety of the water that comes out of the tap. How
exactly does this happen? This is your opportunity to learn how the
process works.
The program is free and open to all. It
will be held on February 23 at 2 pm in the Program Room of the Milford Public
Library located at 57 New Haven Avenue in Milford.

The Written Word
Calling all writers, readers, poets, wordsmiths, book lovers and general fans of the written word!
The Milford Arts Council and Mick Theebs, the Poet Laureate of Milford, are teaming up to start a group for people who love reading and writing. Meetings will take place every 1st and 2nd Thursday at the Firehouse Gallery from 7- 8:30pm.
Whether you write—or love to read; this is an open invitation for a friendly and spontaneous evening of networking, brainstorming and sharing of ideas. Future plans may include special events, speakers, workshops, blogs, salon nights—all featured around poetry, screenwriting, playwriting, short stories and novel writing, songwriting; for writers and readers alike.
At the Firehouse Gallery, 81 Naugatuck Avenue (in Walnut Beach). Light refreshments will be served.

Pantochino Teen Theatre presents "Starmites!" An ‘out of this world’ high energy adventure-fantasy where a shy teenager creates a world of heroes and villains who discover love, loyalty and inner strength in outer space. Furry Friends foster and Rescue, Inc Event
WTNH 8 news anchor Laura Hutchinson will be hosting this event. The band Rude Boy George will be performing. Admission is $20 suggested donation, which includes food and drink specials and 5 raffle tickets with the opportunity to purchase more. All proceeds will benefit the rescue and funds will be used for medical care and the dogs' training needs.

Harriet Tubman - I Can’t Die But Once
Harriet Tubman was a woman of unique qualities and abilities even though she
was illiterate. She maintained an
unblemished record of vigilance, and left
a legacy of sacrifice and struggle. I Can’t Die But Once weaves a tale of
truth, pain, courage, and determination that takes the audience into her life –
at first enslaved – her eventual escape – solicited by the United States
Government for her unique talents – evading capture behind enemy lines.. They
enlisted her as a scout and spy for the Union cause and she battled
courageously behind enemy lines during the Civil War. Her story is
inspirational.

special presentation of Harriet Tubman’s life, presented by the talented and
professional Gwendolyn Quezaire-Presutti.
Gwendolyn
Quezaire-Presutti’s portrayal of historical women introduces untapped history,
drawing on a wide array of primary historical resources. For the past 20 years
Gwendolyn, has engaged audiences with performances giving voice to real life
accounts, struggles, self-determination and triumphs of women she portrays.
Each performance is infused with her unique finger print giving an integral
portrait of a historical event or person.

Milford Irish Grand Marshal & Miss Emerald Isle Dinner
Hello everyone, on February 26 the Saint Patrick's Day Parade Committee will be hosting a dinner for Milford's newest Grand Marshal and our newest Miss Emerald Isle.
Our Grand Marshal is our very own Nell Moll from the Milford Chamber and the Miss Emerald Isle who has not been chosen as of yet.
If you would like to come out and honor these fine Milfordites , we will be having a ceremony in their honor at Staniziale's Reastaurant in Stratford on Main Street near the airport at 6:00 pm till 9:00 pm.
There is a choice of 3 meals, a chicken dish, a fish dish and an eggplant parmesan dish. Also there is a children's meal, chicken fingers is available. This includes coffee, tea, soda, and dessert.
The cost is $45.00 per person , children $20.00.
