Boating Safety Course

USCG Auxiliary 24-3 is offering this course.  For advanced registration, go to http://a0142403.uscgaux.info/.  Instruction will cover all the basic topics involved in the safe operation of recreational boating and seamanship.  It will also cover safe personal watercraft operation.  Successful completion of this 8 hour ABS course satifies the Connecticut licensing requirements for boars and personal watercraft.  Family participation is encouraged.  Cost for the course is $60.  All students will need to get a State of CT Conservation ID Number before taking the ABS/PWC class.

Powder Puff Football Game!
You are invited to participate in our 3rd Annual Get In Touch powder puff football game, which will be played in cities and towns across the globe during the week leading up to “that-other-big-game-day,” from Saturday, January 28 to Sunday, February 5, 2017!
Play at any point during that week that works for YOU!
What makes this game so special?
You’ll be playing right in your own hometown, with your own friends – and in addition to having an epic amount of fun, your registration fee will benefit The Get In Touch Foundation and our mission to provide free breast health education to girls all over the globe!
Let’s make the week leading up to “that-other-big-game-day” a GET IN TOUCH week where guys and gals of all ages GIT their pink on by showing off their mad-skills on the playing field with a little “Philanthropic-Football.”
Is this game open for women only?
No, this year for the first time, it is open to EVERYONE!

"Casey Carle's BubbleMania Coming to Orange

BubbleMania is a highly- acclaimed show combining the science of bubbles with theatrical showmanship and comedy. Its website  describes the show as an “extremely unique program combining high energy entertainment with artistic achievement.
BubbleMania is loaded with visual comedy, quick wit, big band swing music and the untamed, often unbelievable qualities and beauty of spherical liquids.” This will be a wonderful community event and lots of fun for all ages.

Milford Road Runners Winter Wonder Land 5-mile Road Race

Registration starts at 8:30am.  There will be an awards ceremony inside the gym at 10:45am.  All those who pre-register will receive a race T-shirt and goody bag as long as supplies last.  Post race food donor include Subway and Dunkin' Donuts.  Also, warm cookies, hot chocolate, soup and fruit will be available.  The post-race raffle will have many prizes.  Pre-registration is $20, day of race is $30.

Pizza and Paint

Our trained artist will guide you, brushstroke by brushstroke, from blank canvas to a beautiful masterpiece.  You don't need an ounce of artistic skill.  We will supply all you need-paint, and a canvas.  To be safe, wear some old clothes.  Space is limited.  Registrations can be made at the Park and Recreation Office, 525 Orange Center Road, Orange, CT 06477 and ends on Friday, January 27th.  Sorry, late registrations will not be accepted.  Pizza, snacks and beverages will be provided.  Cost is $40.

English Language Tutor Training Classes - Milford

Volunteer tutors will learn techniques to assist Basic Literacy and ESL students with dialogue, listening comprehension, oral fluency, phonics, reading comprehension and writing skills. No previous teaching experience required! All prospective tutors will be interviewed in advance.  For further information, call The Literacy office between the hours of 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at 203-878-4800 or stop by the Stratford Library Satellite Office on Wednesdays, 10:00 - 12:00 or 3:00 - 5:00.

Additionally, if you are interested in working with students preparing for their GED (General Equivalency Diploma) examination, or prefer to help adult students with basic literacy skills, call the Center’s office to schedule your orientation meeting.

Literacy Volunteers is part of the ProLiteracy network of adult basic education and literacy programs. ProLiteracy is working with its member programs to raise awareness of available ESL services.
